Possibly the most impressive blue bell carpets in the north of Wiltshire, West Woods just outside of Marlborough is a must visit location around late spring when the blue bells bloom, creating a carpet of violet which stretches in to the distance in all directions.

If you are going to visit during the blue bell bloom, we recommend that you avoid going at the weekend if possible and arrive as early as you can as it becomes extremely busy with the car park filling quickly and overflowing on to the track leading back to road used to get to the site.

There are many trails and paths through West Woods which can be easily walked or cycled on. Their condition can vary with some hard packed gravel paths which are good to use year round, and some places which become extremely wet and boggy during the wetter months.

Both the Wansdyke Path and Whitehorse Trail go through the woods.

A note to dog walkers, in 2015 there was a case of alabama rot which was believed to be linked to West Woods.

Cick on the items in the list below to focus the map on that amenity.
