A mixture of hay meadows, wet woodland, marsh and fen, Catcott in the Somerset Levels is a varied landscape which changes throughout the year as the water levels raise and lower, changing the habitat and the animals that reside in it.

As the landscape changes so much depending on the time of year, the wildlife that you will see can vary, but you may see mammals such as hares, roe deer and for the lucky visitors, you may see otters and greater horseshoe bats. You may also see reptiles like slow worm, grass snakes and great crested newts.

The bird species that can be found here also has a wide variety including, snipe, lapwing, hobby, wigeon, teal and shoveler. Calcott Complex is known as an excellent place for watching wintering birds.

Dogs are only allowed in certain parts of the reserve, and should be kept on leads at all times.
