North East

The north eastern region of England includes the rugged landscapes of Northumberland National Park bordering Scotland, the eastern edge of the Pennine hills, coastal cliffs in Yorkshire which are home to large colonies of sea birds including puffins and gannets, and the drained flat lands around the Humber.

Durham

With a large part of the north Pennines, the county of Durham is a rugged and remote area with large habitats of tussock grass, peat bog and heather moorlands.
